Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy, but I have come to give you life and life to the full (John 10v10). I have been thinking about this: what it means, what it looks like. Does it mean an Aston Martin in the garage? Does it mean an 8 bed mansion? Does it mean being a CEO of a large corporation or the boss of a successful business? Does it mean two weeks holiday a year in Barbados? Does it look like a glossy exterior of calm and contentment with the perfect family? And what does it mean that Satan wants to kill, steal and destroy? Does it mean sickness? Does it mean broken relationships? Does it mean feeling down, hurt, bitter? Does it mean feeling unfulfilled, badly treated, bored? Does it mean having a bad day?
The more I look at Jesus, the more I realise how upside down his Kingdom is, how these things are more about a state of being rather than about external circumstances. Just when we think we know what death means and life means, He throws something like ‘if you want to find life, you need to lose it’, literally die (Matt 10v39, 16v25, Luke 17v33), and there is this crazy truth that in some way death brings both life and beauty.
