There have been a number of movies about the end times, or at least disaster movies where the world might get wiped out. Independence day, The day after tomorrow, Armageddon, Deep impact, even the left behind series. There is a film called 2012, yet here we still are in 2016. So how is it all going to end - cosmic explosion, meteor disaster, freak catastrophic weather phenomenon, or is ET, or maybe even Pacman going to come back with all his mates and destroy the world.
Make no mistake about it, the end is coming, we are in the last days, but what will the last day actually be like, if Jesus came to earth again?...

Our world is fascinated by the afterlife - what is like, is it real, where will I end up. Thrown into the mix is this desire for eternal life; how we can stay young, how we can evade old age and maybe even death. We have creams that promise reduced wrinkles and youthful looking skin. We have diets and tablets that say they reduce the signs of ageing. Films have been made about the cradle of life, or the fountain of youth. Although in desperate times people want to end their life, in general there seems to be a belief that life goes on, that death is not the end, or even the way it should be. Its as if eternity has been inscribed into our DNA, but we can't quite put our finger on it.
So what is the truth, how should we live in this world, should we embrace mortality, should we embrace death? What did Jesus accomplish not just from dying on the cross but also rising to new life? What does Jesus resurrection mean for us today?

Mental health issues including anxiety and depression are the number one healthcare problem in the the UK.
More and more people are coming down with stress related illnesses, and the age in which this is happening is getting younger. More children are now being diagnosed and medicated then ever before. We worry more then ever; we worry about having too much money and loosing it, having not enough money and getting it. We worry about what we look like, eat, where we live, what others think, who we are going to date and marry. We worry about our spouses, our children, our jobs, our schools, our friends. We worry about our futures, our pasts and our present. We worry about everything and worry leads to fear.
So what is the Christians response to this? What do we have to offer a fearful world. Some might say we need to let people know fear is a sin and so you need to stop it. Others may want to embrace some kind of childhood problem that needs to be dealt with, but what is the real answer to real fear?
Today we are going to try and answer these question as we look at "If Jesus was Afraid".

The church, in general, is in danger of loosing what set it apart in the first place; People overwhelmed by the love of God, totally devoted to Jesus, living in community together reaching out to a world with the love, power and presence of God.
Many people think the church is outdated and not relevant to today - from the Sunday service to the mid week meetings - many people are trying to find new ways of doing things - fresh expressions. This can often involve Churches trying to soften the musical worship times, reduce preaching slots, thinking people wont connect because it is not relevant. Many people are trying to think of new ways of presenting Jesus, the church and services. But are they really working? Is it all just another form of religion - and religion kills the flow of the Spirit.
Although Jesus was not part of a church as we know today, he gives us some understanding of what we his people should be like, which is then practically demonstrated through the early church. Today we are going to look at; if Jesus did mars hill church what would it look like?...

Being a Christian isn’t always easy… If we truly want to live for Christ - it costs, we need perseverance, we need to be willing to let go of our life, and as Jesus said - we need to loose our life, if we want to truly find his. I have been asking myself - What Kind of Christians is the church producing today? Are we anything like the picture God had in mind? We want to portray the true gospel, and see real authentic Christians being disciples and looking to make other disciples, who are willing to come and be a living sacrifice and whose delight is Jesus....

What it is to be free. Over the centuries people have fought for freedom - freedom of speech, freedom to vote, freedom to be. I think of the great Christian William Wilberforce - who fought to ban slavery, so that men and woman could be free. But there is something greater at stake here, something bigger than the earthly struggles we face, and that is eternal salvation, eternal freedom - this is the reason Jesus came - to give us life, Jesus came to cut us off from the power of sin, so we could stand right before God forever free....

Weakness is not often seen as a positive thing. If you call someone weak it would be seen as an insult, a slight on someones character, as not very nice. Yet the bible encourages us to be weak, because it is in our weakness that God can be strong (2 Cor 12v10)....
