Paul Scott spoke to us from Acts 6. His talk was called 'Equipped to Serve' and he referred to the growing number of disciples who needed to do more menial tasks as well as preaching and teaching. The Twelve gathered them all together and selected seven men who were full of the Holy Spirit and His wisdom to serve the people while the rest continued with their preaching work. As the story unfolded, we saw that, even when God allocates what we regard as an easy or menial task, he still uses us in so many other ways. God wants us to have a right heart, a right attitude and the right gifts to serve Him. Stephen was given a simple task but his life impacted on so many others. Paul showed that Jesus lived his life to show us the power that He can release in us if we really give ourselves to God. And just as Stephen, through the work God enabled him to do, challenged the system so people stood up against him, we can expect this if we are doing God's work. But God's love is a love of action. not one that just stands by - and if we are filled with the Holy Spirit we need to show that love in action, whatever the cost. A challenging message for us all!
