Mars Hill Church Teignmouth

Soul Food - Leviticus 1 - Chameleon Christianity

Introduction:

The church of today is looking just like the world - I have pet chameleons, and Chameleon are able to shift their cells under their skin to change colour, to blend into the background, so they can’t be seen. This is what is too often happening among Christians. One of the reasons the church seems to be ineffective in our country is because it is conforming to the pattern of the world, rather than being transformed by the renewing of its mind. This means you can’t tell the difference between the church and the world. We look the same, rather than shining so brightly that there is a contrast. We have bought into the lie that we need to somehow look like the world, to relate to the world to save the world, and yet the world is dying and going to hell. As we begin our study in the book of Leviticus we need to ask ourselves, is this what God intended when he chose to make a way for us to approach the unapproachable God?

Key Verse:

The Lord called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock.

“If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord. (Leviticus 1v1-3).

Some Thoughts:

God’s people had to make a sacrifice to atone for their sin so they could be accepted by him. Jesus has made that sacrifice for us, but what is our part in this? How do we make a mockery of Jesus’ sacrifice by carrying on looking like the world? How can understanding our part in sacrifice help us to lead a Holy life where we shine for Jesus?

Strong Foundations - Genesis 29-31 - What kind of Christian?

Being a Christian isn’t always easy… If we truly want to live for Christ - it costs, we need perseverance, we need to be willing to let go of our life, and as Jesus said - we need to loose our life, if we want to truly find his. I have been asking myself - What Kind of Christians is the church producing today? Are we anything like the picture God had in mind? We want to portray the true gospel, and see real authentic Christians being disciples and looking to make other disciples, who are willing to come and be a living sacrifice and whose delight is Jesus....
