Soul Food - What manner of man?

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 1st May 2016 in Meditation | soul food, meditation,if Jesus, discipleship
Introduction There was a famous song released in 1995 and it went something like this; What if God was one of us, Just a slob like one of us, Just a stranger on the bus. Trying to make His way home? If God had a face, what would it look like? And would you want to see? If seeing meant that you would have to believe In things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints and all the prophets? Ironically God did become one of us and turned up in the dusty towns of Galilee. He had a face, hands, body and legs, he would have sweated, struggled with B.O., got tired, and had Relationship struggles. He worked in his dads business as a carpenter, and went with his famil...

Soul Food - Out of Eden - Genesis

Introduction:There are two ways to get to my parents in law; the quick way, up the motorway, or the long way through the countryside. One gets the job done, the other takes its time, but allows us to appreciate the beautiful countryside we live in. One is over quickly, the other takes its time. One has little pleasure, the other puts a smile on your face. As we embark on this crazy task of running through the bible in 8 weeks, I don’t want us to just rush through it, but to savour the moments, use the time for God to reveal something to us. I don’t want us to have the mentality that wow we got through it, that was amazing, or hurry up we need to move on....

Soul Food - Out of Slavery - Ex-Deut.

Introduction:I often speak to people who are not sure they hear God, or see what he does in their lives, or if he really exists. If they do they often feel God he is distant or not interested. This is most often tied into unanswered prayer, prolonged illnesses, or situations that suddenly shake what we thought we knew about God. God is often missed in everyday life because we are so busy, so busy on our goals and aspirations. So busy trying to fight our fears, and avoid our phobias. We are so concerned with ourselves; for good or bad, that God is missing. God, at times, is more of a concept, a set of religious beliefs or practices, rather than a person who kno...

Soul Food - How much are you Willing to Pay?

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 16th January 2017 in Religion & Spirituality | soul food, meditate, meditation, surrender, love, jesus
Soul Food - How much are you willing to pay? Introduction: How much are you willing to pay? That’s the question, isn't it? It’s the question with everything. If you are looking to get a house, a car, or a new jacket for the winter, at the crunch, when you find what you want, the big question is,’ are you willing to pay for it?’ It’s the same with our jobs, careers, education: how much are we willing to pay to get where we want to go? We can connect this to our social groups and hobbies, whether its music, sport, art, or cross stitch, how much are we willing to pay to develop our skills? Then what about Relationships, how much are we willing to give...
