Posted by Mars Hill Church on 6th July 2018 in Religion & Spirituality | Love, genuine, real, authentic
Soul Food - Authentic love 2017 Introduction: For two years we have had the vision of Radical love; exploring how we can demonstrate Gods overwhelming love to each other and our communities. Linked to this was creativity, and the myriad of ways God has created and gifted us to share this amazing truth. This year God has refined this vision to - Authentic love. This crazy outrageous love of God needs to be real, genuine - authentic. It’s not about us being crazy in what we do to show love, but its about our actions and words coming from an authentic heart   Key Verse: Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one anoth...

Soul Food - If Jesus... was born an ordinary baby

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 23rd May 2016 in Meditation | Soul food, meditation
Introduction Last week we looked at Jesus as God, and how the bible time and time again affirmed that Jesus was God, but that's not the only thing the bible has to say about Jesus. It also says he was human. This mind-blowing truth has stirred questions, debate and even outrage throughout the centuries. Could God really give up his throne and become an ordinary baby?   Key Verse And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only son from the Father, full of grace and truth… And from his fullness we have all received grace upon grace (John 1 v 14 and 16).   Some Thoughts What is the s...

Soul Food - If Jesus... was God?

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 9th May 2016 in Meditation | Soul food,if jesus,if jesus was god, deity of christ
Introduction: Many people, religions and faith backgrounds have many things to say about Jesus. He was a good man, a prophet, an angel, a type of god or demi god, but who do you believe Jesus was and is? Was he more than these things, does the bible teach us that he really was God? We Can’t start a series about Jesus without looking at his divinity ?rst. What if Jesus was God?   Key Verse: Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”...

Soul Food - If Jesus... played Pokemon Go

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 25th July 2016 in Blogging | Soul food,if jesus, pokemon go
Introduction There is a huge craze sweeping the digital world and that is Pokemon Go. If you haven't seen it, its a game where you go about looking for characters called Pokemon and try and catch them. You can have all sorts of games and battles, but the big idea is to get people out of their houses and mingling with other people. So If Jesus played Pokemon Go what could we learn from him? Would it be a tool to connect with more people? In Jesus we see how he was able to culturally connect with people without compromise; he brought the reality of the love of God to every area of society.   Key Verse For though I am free from all, I have made myself a...

Soul Food - The Just Shall Live by Faith

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 24th October 2016 in Meditation | Soul food, the just shall live by faith, faith, james 2,faith and works, live by faith
Introduction In these end times, the bible encourages us to live our lives by faith and that faith without works is dead. Part of our work of faith are the words we speak. Our words can create the lives we want as well as give a reflection of where we are in our walk of faith. Key Verses The Righteous ones (Just), Shall live by faith. (Hebrews 10:35-39, James 2:14-20, Romans 10:14-17, Proverbs 18:20-21, Luke 6:43-45). Some Thoughts We are encouraged to let our speech be with grace and seasoned with salt, meaning we need to be deliberate about the words we speak. We ought to speak words of faith that build us up as well as encourage those around us. Reasse...

Soul Food - Truth or Treat?

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 31st October 2016 in Meditation | Soul food, halloween, demons
Introduction Americans spend 7-8 billion dollars on Halloween. It is the second or thirds biggest holiday. Its also rising the charts in the UK, with it now being the third biggest holiday, with us Brits spending £300-to-400 million. If you go into a supermarket, you will be treated with books on how to be a witch and how to do spells. It’s a night where people dress up as ghosts, zombies or anything scary and try to get as many sweets as possible, or scare as many people as possible. So the question is; is it just harmless fun or something more sinister. What is a Christians response to Halloween?   Key Verse Look carefully then how you walk, not...
