Acts 22: Eyes Wide Shut

Posted by Mars Hill Blog on 16th March 2014 in Acts | Acts, New Testament, Christianity, video, love
In our nation of plenty, there is still plenty of pain, whether it's abuse, loneliness, sickness, or psychological pain.  The wealthiest and strongest people, still experience this although it is well hidden under a composed posture and affluent lifestyle.  If we are to be Jesus then we need to love all people.  As Paul says we are to be over powered even disarmed by love.  We need to love people without any other agenda, except to demonstrate how much God loves us all......

Love to be Hated

Posted by Mars Hill Blog on 24th April 2018 in Religion & Spirituality | love, hate, suffering, persecution, life, death, joy, hope
My daughter once said to me that she loved me to death - It got me thinking thats exactly how much God loves us. God want to love us until death - a pruning that produces death to everything that hinders us and holds us back. He wants to love us until there is death to our sin, our sickness, our insecurities, our fear. This will in turn cause us to love God and others. However, the paradox will be the more we love God, the more we will love people, the more we will be persecuted, and even hated for it....

Strong Foundations - Genesis 3: The Fall

Posted by Mars Hill Blog on 19th February 2020 in Religion & Spirituality | sin, faith, shalom, new, creation,Genesis
This week we looked at the fall, human sin, depravity, the curse, and we will deal with the fact that God judges. It’s clear to see that something has gone terribly wrong. If you look at the world in the global cosmic scheme of things you can see the devastation and destruction. On the more micro level, you look at your own life, the people you know, the people you love and you see suffering, you see injustice, you see evil, you see death and sickness and mourning and loss and pain. Christian and non-Christian alike, people simply cannot accept that the way the world is, is the way that the world should be. Something has gone terribly wrong…...

Ask Us Anything - What is the point of pain and suffering?

Posted by Mars Hill Blog on 21st August 2019 in Religion & Spirituality | pain, sickness, suffering, death, hope, life, purpose, sanctification,Holy
I used to say a good stream can’t produce bad water, or a good tree cannot produce bad fruit. Yet it depends on what we mean by fruit or good stream. You see a good stream can produce grit and stone that breaks, moulds and shapes the river banks to produce its beauty and splendour. The same with fruit - is bad fruit more than what we call bad things like pain and suffering? Is bad fruit just selfish, ungodly character. In contrast can pain, suffering, even evil create something beautiful and can God use all these things for his Glory and our good? Can a good stream produce rocks and boulders to shape it into something beautiful. Can a good tree be pruned and...

Soul Food - Everything is New

Posted by Mars Hill Church on 2nd January 2017 in Meditation | soul food, everything is new,new creation, new year,2017
Introduction New Year is often full of new years resolution; some are kept but many are broken. New diets, New exercise plans. New ideas and new dreams. In the midst of all this God is still in the business of making things new - us, and our world. But how can we live more in the reality of this? Key Verse And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:5) Some Thoughts What does it mean when God says he is making all things new? What would it mean to have a new kind of life, with a new relationship with God and those around us? To have new lives with no sickness and a new world with no brokenness? How c...

History Maker - Gospels - Out of Death comes Beauty

Posted by Mars Hill Blog on 28th November 2017 in Religion & Spirituality | lifes, death, hope,Gospels
Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy, but I have come to give you life and life to the full (John 10v10). I have been thinking about this: what it means, what it looks like. Does it mean an Aston Martin in the garage? Does it mean an 8 bed mansion? Does it mean being a CEO of a large corporation or the boss of a successful business? Does it mean two weeks holiday a year in Barbados? Does it look like a glossy exterior of calm and contentment with the perfect family? And what does it mean that Satan wants to kill, steal and destroy? Does it mean sickness? Does it mean broken relationships? Does it mean feeling down, hurt, bitter? Does it mean feeling unfulfil...
