Over the next couple of weeks we are going to take a look at our vision and values.  In the film Shrek, Shrek explains to Donkey that ogres are like onions:  they have layers, they are complex people with a heart.  Onions have hearts, and the church has a heart: at the heart of the church is Jesus, because Jesus sets both the vision and the values. So if someone asked, 'What's at the heart of Mars Hill?' the answer would be Jesus.  Then if the next question was, 'What does that look like?' the answer would be in our vision and values. Michael Jackson in his song; Man in the Mirror, recognises that he has become the victim of a selfish kind of love, but now he realises that there is more to life than himself. So he is going to look at the man in the mirror, and make the change… The bible encourages us to do the same. James 1:23, talks about someone looking in a mirror then forgetting what they look like. This is all too common; the Holy Spirit illuminates something in our lives, we see it, we are impacted by it, but we then walk away and forget to do anything about it.
