The problem is when these turn into judgmentalism, when we judge the heart and motives of people and base decisions on this. Have you ever bit into an apple and realised its rotten? It looks good on the outside but once you get in, you realise its full of decay – it’s just plain nasty. This is what Jesus is getting at as he starts to bring his mountain message to a close. Jesus is asking us not to judge but to discern people by their fruit: not by what they say or do, but by discerning whether Jesus is at the centre. The Bible tells us that in these last days, false prophets will arise to even deceive the elect, so how can we know if something or someone truly is from God?...
